Fried Egg Tutorial

Hello everyone ! Welcome to my cooking channel where I will share with you my favorite food and how to cook it. Not only that, I will bring you on a journey of flavours, textures and all things yummy.

This week, we will be learning how to fry a Sunny Side Up. We all have our preferences... whether if it is the super oily and 烧焦 fried egg from the nasi lemak stall, or the flawless one that looks like its from a cartoon. Personally, I like an in between of both which my dad makes PERFECTLY. I hereby present to you.... Uncle Tay's fried egg recipe !

Ingredients:

  1. One large egg (hatched perfectly and pasteurized)

  2. Any pan that you have at home (preferably non-stick)

  3. 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

  4. 2 teaspoons of soy sauce

Instructions:

  1. Heat up pan on medium heat

  2. Pour in vegetable oil

  3. Use hand to hover over the pan, and trust your instincts that the pan is hot enough

  4. Crack in egg, without getting any eggshells in it

  5. Hear the egg sizzle in a medium volume, not too low (not hot enough), and not too loud (too hot). Adjust temperature according to volume of sizzle. The egg should form a bit of bubbles.

  6. Try to maintain calm even when you get attacked by oil (imagine your daughter is watching you)

  7. Once the clear egg whites are cooked (but yolk is still runny), take the pan off the heat

  8. Sprinkle on the soy sauce

  9. Flip the egg over carefully, without breaking the yolk, then flip it back on top

  10. Place egg on your meal or a plate and enjoy !

Taste:

- When you cut into the egg, it is easy to separate but once in a while you will come across a more 烧焦 part that needs a bit more force to cut into

- The egg yolk is half cooked, making it gooey but runny in certain parts

- When you first bite into the egg, you will first feel the juicy and bouncy texture of the egg white. Then, you will eventually move on to the egg yolk which is a burst of liquid gold, coating your spoon/fork/food beneath that leave you wanting for more.

- The soy sauce is slightly immersed into the egg (Especially the egg yolk) making it salty but the taste of the egg cuts through and reminds you that you are eating a simple but satisfying source of protein.

- You will feel a sense of happiness, xingfu-ness and "full"-ness.
