What is MOVING WITH ARTISANS (MoA)?

Updated: Jun 18, 2021

With “Your Memory Our Identity” as our foundation, and in the honour of paying tribute to these craftsmen on their contribution to, not only their household income but also the economy, we have brought to CENDANA the idea of expanding the project and received a positive response.

Our “Your Memory Our Identity” evolves! With more focus is directed into weaving the connection and, as mentioned earlier, strengthening awareness cultivation, we call our project “Moving with Artisan” (MoA). Yes, our goal is beyond recalling and reminding memories. We. Are. Becoming. The. artisan. Ourselves (with our movements, of course)!

With mixed art presentation, including traditional arts/crafts/skills with contemporary dance/movements and installation art, we will collaborate with numerous artists, including *1 installation artist, 3 young dancers, 1 professional dance company and 1 secondary dance club*, to show the different dimension of our subjects using a different structure of work.

“Your Memory Our Identity” was more about introducing the subject and topic, and “Moving with Artisan” (MoA) is going to become the spoken language and the spokesperson of these incredible artisans.

Getting to know our subjects is an interesting experience. We, standing before them, are like a young and innocent kid wanting to know everything about what they do and how they do it; while they, on the other hand, the master in their own craft for so many years find it challenging to express themselves and what they do for a living.

Perhaps the truest explanations are meant to be felt instead of told. We approached these living gems to learn about their wisdoms by observing, digesting and recreating what they practice. In return, they get to watch how we transform their “ordinary work” into a presentation and language that tell stories.
